Frenulum (again)

I have a rather short and quite thick frenulum, which can cause my skin to slip forwards. It also gets quite sore if it gets heavy use. So, I am going to try an experiment with it. I shall massage it using E45 cream three or four times each day, to see if it can be stretched or thinned (or both!).

The first one, about being skinned back, was very encouraging: out of 122 votes, 52 said they were skinned back full time, while 49 said part-time. This is 101 guys going about with their forekins pulled back - plus another 8 who have short skins that roll back naturally. Of course, there is no indication of where these guys are from.

The second, about underwear, just comes out in favour of loose boxers, which got 28 votes out of 70, while briefs came second with 23. Tight boxers (boxer-briefs, trunks) were the least popular with 14. I did leave out some types, so this is not so representative - jocks were not included, for example, nor thongs. Perhaps those who wear them voted under briefs! But ...there were also 5 votes for commando, so allowing that no underwear is much the same as loose boxer shorts, 33 votes went for letting things hang free.

Wanking: forward or back?

A number of guys I have chatted with about permanent retraction say that they still use their foreskins for wanking. I can't see the sense in this: if you want a bare glans, then surely you keep it bare at all times! I have to tell partners (circumcised and not) not to pull it forward over my glans.

I like to wank by rubbing the glans in a loose grip, without any lube. Sometimes I pull the skin as far down the shaft as it will go, at others I leave it where it is behind the corona. Occasionally I use lube, and that really does heighten the sensations - almost to an unbearable degree.

Well, if you wear loose boxers or other shorts, then it hangs as it will! But if you wear tighter styles, you have make a decision about the position of your dick. Do you have it pointing straight up, or across to the right or the left, or pointing straight down, over your balls? A lot depends, I think, on the size of the flaccid cock, and the position it wants to take naturally.

Rather a long time since the last post - life gets in the way!

I have been thinking about what kind of underwear is best for skinning back. Of course, if your foreskin goes back and stays there without any assistance, then you don't really need to worry, and you can wear what you like! I am interested that the poll on the front page indicates that loose boxers are (just) more popular than any other kind. I've been trying various kinds recently. (The pics are not me - but just trawled from the net, so I can't guarantee they are skinned back!)

Loose boxers (or other shorts). Allow everything to hang free; no pressure on the glans; gentle rubbing of the glans on the shorts can keep it slightly aroused helping the skin stay back.

Tight boxers/trunks. Hold everything in place, but I find they are not very good if the skin slips forward - difficult to readjust it! The kinds with a built-in pouch and no fly opening are best.

Jockstrap. So far my favourite! The tightness of the pouch keeps everything where it should be - including the foreskin, although (depending on the make and style of pouch) it does not compress the glans but allows it to swell.

Commando (freeballing). Not wearing any at all has much the same advantages as loose shorts, but is even easier to make a readjustment in case of 'slippage' - just put your hand in your pocket and reach across!

As I was approaching puberty, I got a real shock when I switched schools and for the first time was thrust into a locker room environment where all the boys shared dressing and shower facilities in common.I had no idea until then that I was indeed a sheltered child raised like a mushroom. Nearly all the other boys appeared to have their foreskins pulled all the way back, all the time! How did they do it, and why? I felt like a freak, and was embarrassed no end to have to shed my clothes together with them. But the real shock of all came when I soon discovered that my own older brother and a cousin also lookedl ike the other boys. Then I really felt alone. But they comforted me and told me I had to do the same thing that they had learned to do. None of us even knew about circumcision yet.

At first it was difficult. My foreskin wouldn't stay retracted and when it did it was extremely sensitive and uncomfortable wearing clothing. But if my brother and cousin and friends had done it, somehow I knew I could too. More important, I knew I had to. In the early years, I would keep my skin retracted only when I slept or when not physically active. I used rubber bands, looping two together to make a figure 8 pattern, and putting one loop around my balls and the other around the penis over the retracted skin (either top or bottom), to hold it in place. I also tried tape and other things, with various degrees of results, none very good. One of a number of things I tried was to tie a piece of cloth around my ball sack, with the skin bunched up so as to pull back on the foreskin as much as possible. One day I found out that unruly bulls were often castrated by having a stiff wire tied around their ball sacks, which cut off blood flow and caused the balls and sack to die and fall off. Would this work on a foreskin? Actually, it does, with the Gomcoclamp and Mogen ring, but I didn't know about that stuff back then. I fashioned a ring out of a strip of flat aluminum, to fit around my penis just behind the head. Then I pulled the retracted foreskin forward, over the ring, and placed a tight rubber band around the outside of the foreskin, on top of the strip ring that was now on the inside. But it started throbbing and began to hurt, so I could only wear that for about an hour. Back to the drawing board. Gradually, I noticed that the foreskin was beginning to cooperate a little, and the more frequent exposure of the penis head seemed to let it grow out better. Hypersensitivity of the head also began to level down to a more comfortable feeling. Eventually it even became erotic to feel clothing rub across it, and I was walking around with a half hard for much of the time. By then, any erection would cause the foreskin to retract completely, an experience which I welcomed. During the following summer I finally achieved more or less permanent retraction. But although nothing could have made me happier, I had to wonder what the other boys would think when school started again. I still felt like wearing my foreskin peeled back was a prelude to something sexual. Would I be sending that kind of message?I put the thought out of my mind. I finally had what I needed and wanted, it no longer caused me automatic erections at the most awkward times, and now I would blend in with the other boys. Besides, I had already noticed that I wasn't the only one. Other boys' puberty stages had caused a few short foreskins to auto-retract, and others appeared to have done exactly what I had done. I wanted so much to talk to them about it, but couldn't muscle the nerve. It was at least another year or so before I began to learn of other uncut boys and their stories. Foreskins - a new position

What happens to the foreskins of retracted men? In the case of lads who start to skin back before puberty, it seems that their foreskins are not stretched as the penis grows in length, and so they remain small, and in many (most?) cases cannot be pushed forwards.

For men who start later in life, the foreskin has already grown, and of course there are as many types of foreskin as there are men! Leaving aside the guys who cannot retract at all because they are too tight, or those who can't do it permanently as their 'skin is too long or too loose, and those with short foreskins that stay back without too much effort, what happens to the rest? Some guys say it does actually shrink, but this must be rare, and this may be a result of the glans expanding and making the skin look smaller.

In most cases, the foreskin 'learns' its new retracted position as the normal one, and will eventually stop slipping forwards except under pressure. The cock looks as if it has a loose circumcision.

Chatting with skinned-back guys leads me to think there are a number of reasons why they do it, many of which overlap with reasons why other guys get themsleves circumcised. In no particular order, they are:

1. Because they like the look of the bare glans. Often said to look more 'manly' or 'mature'. This is similar to, but not the same as ...
2. The desire to 'pass' for circumcised. This may be to enable an uncircumcised guy to 'pass' in a largely circumcised society, or to enable him to look different in a largely uncircumcised one.
3. Because they like the feel of the bare glans.
4. Because it is sexually stimulating - these are often part-timers.
5. For health or hygiene reasons.
6. Because they were taught to do so by an older male relation - usually father or older brother.
7. Out of curiosity. These guys may start by pulling back in the shower, then leaving it back while drying, and then when getting dressed.

... and of course there are those who have very short skins that retract naturally.

I was chatting online with a guy the other day who had been a skinback until he got circumcised. He told me he has a son, and he made him start skinning back from the age of six. It took a year for the skin to 'learn' to stay back, and now, twelve or so years later, the lad's foreskin is permanently retracted. If it is pushed forward, it covers half the glans, and immediately rolls back behind it when let go. The general appearance is of a loose circumcision.

If he is a permanent retractor, then his glans will have become like a circumcised one - possibly enlarged, and certainly its colour will be closer to that of the shaft skin - pinkish in white guys, dark brown in black guys - while of he has just skinned back for the time being, it will be more likely purply (white guys) or pink (black guys).

In the ensuing years I made stronger efforts to train my foreskin to stay back. I think I first tried rubberbands. They kind of worked but looked weird on my penis and so I couldn’t be seen with them on. They also seemed to strangle my penis and I couldn't bear wearing them for too long. I had to make the rubberbands snug to make my glans swell thus help keep the foreskin back even more but it was hard to continue wearing them for great lengths due to the uncomfortable constriction. Then came tape, all I had then was Mask tape which was uncomfortable because masking tape is not very breathable nor flexible. I also tried Scotch tape which was worse and didn't even consider duct tape due to the extreme adhesiveness. Then I tried glue which also didn't work well. My last efforts as I was now reaching my late teens was developing a trick which I now know is a fairly common foreskin tendency among other who have tried retracting their foreskin and that is to let the foreskin double over the inner foreskin. This doubling over of the foreskin takes up the slack foreskin which then gets buried underneath. This worked for awhile but it was not a permanent thing as the foreskin would unravel over itself if I got hard or did some sudden exertion and the foreskin would unroll itself. The other factor was the only way to get to roll the skin back properly was to get very erect again so that you could work the foreskin back over itself and allow it to double over itself. Not practical thing to do while in school. The other thing about this method is that it didn't quite look like what I wanted it to look. Although attractive to see on a guy fully erect. I see this doubling effect quite often in other guys mostly from watching porn videos. Guys that have a very thick shaft like me can do this very easily. I am not sure if you know what I mean by this but I can show a picture of it.

I believe I tried many other methods that I can't recall for now but I quickly dropped them due to poor immediate results. I finished high school and the goal of ever being able to do this permanent retraction began to fade. As much as I admired it and took notice of it in my father and other male members of my family (cousins) at best all I would be able to achieve is part-time retraction. I never felt comfortable asking family members for aforementioned reasons. My own reasons for not being able to do this came later. I think my foreskin is too thick. I have a fat shaft along with my glans being about the same diameter as my shaft with only a little coronal flare to help. In short my head is just not large enough. After leaving high school, I enlisted in the Navy. I found my foreskin distracting in a shower room full of guys that were circumcised. At age 21 while in the Navy, I elected to get circumcised. As my luck has gone, the circumcision was horrible. Leave it to a Navy doctor who has had little practice at circumcision to do it. He left me with a short circumcision. The scar is only 1/2" away from the head which typically isn't the norm. Most are at least 1" or slightly more and the skin still won't permanently stay behind. It does about 90% of the time but if I get serious shrinkage it will cover about half the glans. Well there it is my extremely long experience on this topic. I still have a strong interest in hearing and learning about other guy’s experiences, not that it will do me much good, but still it’s a good topic and I found that this phenomenon is more prevalent in some cultures than in others. I know it is in Mexican culture.

At 10, I had several events happen. My erections were becoming much more frequent than I had previously noted. I sense that this was the beginning stage of when my penis began to grow. Puberty was to ensue. Although I couldn't visibly tell, there was a developing fullness to my penis that made my erections feel tight for the lack of a better word. During a very strong erection event, I inexplicably decided to pull my foreskin down to the base of the penis very tightly to feel the pleasurable stretch of skin yank my glans down and then quickly release it. This was my first effort at clumsily stroking my penis . I did this 6 or 7 times until all of a sudden I felt a tingle at the head. I stopped and inspected my head closely and noticed I was getting little cracks at the edges of where the skin attached to the glans. I was kind of scared since I thought I might be damaging myself but I was also very excited. My penis was the hardest I had ever felt it and my glans had grown so much it looked huge and the coloration was dramatic, a bright flush red. I was in heat I suppose. The sensation excited me to edge on. I decided to continue and did the pull down stroking 4 more times until I felt a release on my last stroke. My glans became completely fully exposed. I was shocked and surprised. I quickly took note on how my penis had looked. I finally looked like the other boys I had seen, my dad's and the other circumcised kids. What I also noticed is then is that I seeped a large drop of clear fluid from the tip. I thought I had peed from the excitement but when I wiped the drop, the fluid had a very slippery, stringy consistency. It was later in life that I realized that I had happened then was I had broken adhesions which can be normally found in uncircumcised guys and that the drop of fluid that appeared then was my first production of Cowper's fluid (precum).

From here on forward, I found that my foreskin had more ability to stay retracted more readily due to now it had some resistance from my glans. I had a somewhat thick, yet very loose foreskin which was not long but just long enough to cover the head and then just a bit more if my penis shrunk quite a bit. My first attempts at this age of retracting were to just simply pull the skin completely back to the base of the penis, release it and let the skin roll down the shaft until it rested behind the coronal groove and it would do this very well if my penis was in its normal flaccid state and I was standing. When I did this, I could very easily look like my dad and some of the other boys I had seen. This was monumental progress compared to what I had before. However that foreskin permanent retractablity was limited to staying back while standing or walking, the minute I would sit down, bend over to touch the floor, shrinkage or anything extraneous , the foreskin would overtake the glans and start rolling down over it although at a much more slower pace, possibly now due to the coronal rim. I was satisfied at first with just achieving what I had but I puberty was progressing and pubic hair came and as soon as it gained length found that the pubic hair was problematic to keeping a foreskin retracted. Before the rolling of the skin over the glans was not a problem but now if it started rolling down in my briefs and it caught some hair it was very annoying. It was even more problematic if this was occurring while at school and you couldn’t adjust things easily without someone noticing. I achieved my first ejaculation right s I turned 11 and by then I was going into the 7th grade which meant PE although I was not in any sports we still had to shower with the rest that did play. My first showering session with other boys was memorable, there were 5 of us and it was quite interesting. All of us were nervous. The boys were of my ethic background, and all uncircumcised. What was very interesting at this event was observing the variations of foreskins with one particular boy catching my full attention. He was the boy with the retracted foreskin. We all varied in sizes, me being the thickest which was quickly determined by comments made later, one of them had a very thin pencil like penis who on the first group shower developed an enormous erection which kind of looked funny because he didn't have a very thick penis and it looked like a pencil with a foreskin covered marble at the tip. Another boy had a similar penis to mine although he was not as thick but had longer foreskin and the last boy looked like he hadn't reached puberty as he penis looked no bigger than that of a 5 year-old and no pubic hair. Yet the boy with the retracted foreskin had my eye throughout this showering event. His penis was the same length as mine, a little thinner however he had a beautiful glans, very bulbous and full. The foreskin nestled around the coronal rim perfectly. I couldn't figure out how he was doing it since I could keep mine back but if I made any bend over movements to wash anything below my knees would cause the foreskin to start creeping over my head and so I inconspicuously would adjust my skin back as soon as I would straighten up. I would my keep my eye on my fellow classmate to see if he had similar roll down issues but his did none of that as he never reached for his penis to do anything to it other than soap it. I was awestruck. I observed him numerous times and just couldn’t figure it out. Talking about your penis or anyone else’s’ was taboo and even viewed as queer (homosexual) so I never got to approach him about it. I never saw him after 7th grade and I never observed another guy like him. Typically all the other Hispanics I later observed were uncircumcised with their foreskins covered their glans in various degrees but never fully retracted like him. Only later did I learn that the boy in 7th grade was Mexican born.

You find people are anti-circumcision or pro-circumcision and when this topic is brought up you get all the rant from both sides of the aisle and the discussion is lost.' I have found this to be true also - any discussion tends to get turned into a pro/anti circumcision row, although there are a couple of exceptions.

Story begins ...

I've had an interest in achieving a retracted foreskin since childhood. I believe my interest was fueled by my first observation of a male penis besides my own which was my father’s. I first became aware of the differences a penis could have somewhere around the ages of 5 and 6. I had seen my dad's penis before but hadn't notice anything different about it until the aforementioned age. My father is uncircumcised and wears his foreskin retracted behind the glans. The glans was the first thing I noticed as a boy that made my dad's penis look different than my own. I do know that circumcision is not practice in my family due to ethnic practices. My father was born in Mexico and most of my family resides there. In Mexico circumcision is not routinely practiced however that trend is changing due to heavy U.S. influences. I discovered that my foreskin would retract at about 6 purely by accident. The outlined shape of my glans was always visible through my foreskin which lead me to believe that there was more underneath my foreskin however what that was never edged me on to discover it until one day as I went to the bathroom. My intent was to urinate however I ended up playing with my penis more than anything else, I quickly developed a very strong erection and my glans began to peak through the opening of the foreskin. It was enough to see the meatus and about 1/4 of the glans through. I decided to take a leap right at that moment and push the shaft skin down thus pulling the foreskin further back and exposing my entire glans. What an event! I saw my entire glans for the first time. It had a pale pinkish white, bulbous and wet look to it that reminded of the color and texture of an Oscar Meyer hotdog wiener. The cool air brushing the glans made it tingle for me. I touched the exposed glans and it did have some discomforting sensation but it wasn’t really bad. I hadn't realized it then at that moment that my complete glans was not yet fully exposed. I had what is known as adhesions that made the inner foreskin stick to the edges of the glans. It made it seem like I had no coronal rim or like a head without a neck. Penile hygiene along with all the other sexual information was not readily given due to social and religious mores during my childhood then. This was the early 70’s. This lack of education was the norm for a lot of guys of my ethnicity. Had that education been given, I would have discovered my glans much earlier. To further add to my retarded sexual learning, I lived on a farm and had no brothers or sisters. I think some things are learned through siblings. When I started school, I soon discovered that boys came in two flavors, those that had an exposed glans and those like me. I forgot to mention that prior to discovering the two types of penises’, I initially attributed my father's condition to being an adult and figured that I would look like him when I got older. When I saw the first boy at school my theory was blown. I couldn't figure out why some boys were with exposed heads and others weren’t. I was too afraid to ask.

Around the age of 8 or so I began to make my initial attempts to keep a retracted foreskin. I would pull the skin back when I was erect and leave it there however once I tucked my penis in the briefs which was mildly uncomfortable my erection would began to quickly wane and the skin would begin to recover the glans. One day I decided to observe the foreskin as my erection subsided. From what I could see, the foreskin naturally just glided over the glans much like an eyelid covers your eyes easily since there is no resistance. I just couldn't figure out that what it needed to keep it back which was resistance. I knew I couldn't maintain a constant erection because that was the only thing that would keep the foreskin back and the minute the erection waned and began to angle down the skin would start recovering. I kept at it and kept at it and to no avail. I did like the drying effect it had on the glans surface albeit short-lived. It seemed to make my head more sensitive for some reason. I also retracted my foreskin every time I urinated. However this didn’t lessen the humid texture the glans obtained while covered. I fought this battle until I was about 10. I kept the foreskin back when I was hard and let it roll down on its own since I couldn't do anything else about it. In the meantime I observed other boys who I had seen at the urinals with their glans out but again I couldn't figure out why some sort of looked like my dad's with roll of skin around the head and others had absolutely no roll of skin around the head. They just had a sleek shaft that ended with a glans at the end. I also took note of my fellow uncircumcised boys and they all still pretty much looked like me except some had pretty long foreskins that made them look like trunks and a few were like me with just a bit of tip right at the end.

Boxer, briefs, or ...?

What do you wear? Whatever it is, it seems to be dictated partly by personal choice, but for skinned-back guys, by what helps.

Some find that tight styles work best, as they hold everything in place, and stop the foreskin slipping forward. These guys wear briefs of one sort or another, trunks or boxer-briefs, jockstraps - even speedos!

Others find that tight styles are not good, as they confine the penis, and restrict the glans, so it is not able to hold the skin back. They prefer to have it loose, and find the constant rubbing keeps the head slightly plumped up, which makes it easier to hold the skin, and they opt for loose (traditonal) boxer shorts. At the time of writing, the poll has 4 wearing boxers, 4 in briefs, 4 in boxer-briefs, so there's no overall winner!

Those who like it loose can also simply not wear any underwear at all - 'going commando' - which is becoming very common - or maybe it always was, and we just hear about it more! We have two of these on the poll, so it's not the favourite option. But some well-known guys who have admitted to doing it are:

Frenulum - keep or cut?

The frenulum is the small bridge skin under the penis - sometimes called the 'banjo-string'. (The word also refered to the similar piece of skin under the tongue.) It tends to pull the foreskin forwards, and is often removed as part of a circumcision. But it can be cut - a frenulectomy - specially if it is very short (frenulum breve). It also can split or tear as a result of rough treatment ...

Some guys who retract choose to have the frenulum cut, as it stops the forward pull on the skin - and some have started retracting after having a frenulectomy (or after tearing it), as the skin pulls back of its own accord.

On the other hand, it does contain a great number of very sensitive nerves which contribute to sexual pleasure, and some men who have had their frenulum removed say it reduces pleasure.

Yes, this one's mine! I grew up knowing all about the bare glans, as my father had got himself circumcised; I never found out why I was not. There were several lads in my clas at school who were circ'd - about 6 out of 30, which was (for those born in the mid-50s) quite high. They were all done at birth, and no-one was 'done' while at school.

My best mate had (may still have!) a longer cock than mine, but not such a prominent glans. But by the time we were about 16, which was when I last saw it in the compulsory PE showers, his skin was half-way back; he said he thought all men were 'naturally circumcised' by the time they are 20!

I decided I would like a bare glans too, and so I started keeping it rolled back - and of course thugth I was the only person in the whole world 'perverted' enough to do such a thing! First of all when taking a leak - it was of course pulled back then (though some men to pee through the foreskin - eeeuw!) and then I would leave it back when putting it away. And of course in the bath and shower. The glans very quickly dried out and took on the pinky colour of the permanently exposed, as you can see in the pic. I can still remember the first time I went to bed skinned back, and woke up the following morning with it still in place behind my knob.

It's been rather an on-and-off (or back-and-forth!) affair as there are days when it simply will not stay rolled back - the skin is quite long and thick. But I always make sure that it is rolled back if there is any likelihood of it being seen - in changing rooms or public loos.

The only regret I have is not starting earlier - like one guy I read about, who started when he was nine.

Nonetheless, many other guys have thought I am circumcised. Obviously a bare glans means you have seen the knife!

'I was born in the late 60's in uk, circumcision was no longer the norm then so I stayed intact,(infact no boy in my school year of about 80 lads was cut) when I was about 12/13 my skin would retract of its own accord when iIgot hard at that age it was a regular event! I realised that if I just tucked the edge of my foreskin down a little as I softened all the skin would stay back leaving my head exposed, at that time I was still wearing underwear and that also held everything in place. My glans were extremely sensitive at first but I don't remember that being the case for long. I had a few 'mishaps' where it would come forward and catch a hair but this was a rare inconvenience, as time went on my skin got used to its place and just settled behind my glans without me having to adjust. If I feel like having the natural look I pull my skin forward and it covers about half my glans now will stay there unless I get hard. I do like the fact that my head tends to be bigger because it's not being compressed, and maybe it's a little less sensitive but that just means iIlast longer.

'By time I was 14/15 i had ditched underwear I just found it a nuisance and not necessary, this hasn't changed since.

'I've not known many other guys who actually skinback all the time, but about 6 month back I started playing(losing) squash with a mate about 20 years younger than me and lo and behold his foreskin status changes from time to time, 1st time we hit the showers he had his skin forward, since then I've noticed his glans are usually totally exposed.'

Underwear. You may find that your current style works for you. Others find that tighter styles (briefs, boxer-briefs, etc) help to hold the retracted foreskin in place. Others have found that looser styles (boxer shorts) or even ‘going commando’ (no underwear) are better, as they allow the glans to swell, and help the foreskin stay back. Some boxer wearers have found that the constant stimulation of the exposed glans against the material is too much, and have changed to a tighter style, while others find it keeps the glans slightly ‘plumped up’, helping to force the skin back.

Pubic hair can be a menace. If the foreskin does slide forward, it can trap the hairs, and this is painful! The best thing is to trim your hair about once a week, so it is less likely to get trapped.

Be prepared for remarks from other guys who have always seen you with your foreskin in place – especially if you go to a gym, swimming pool, nudist beach, or play a team sport. Don’t push it forward, but be ready to explain why you are retracting. You never know, you might influence them!

I suppose the main question that gets asked is, Why do you do this? Over the years I have been in touch with many other skinned-back men, and some answers seem to come up again and again.

The main one is that they simply like the look of the bare glans. In some cases this is connected with a desire to look circumcised, but not always. Often they say they think it looks 'more masculine'. Closely linked is that they like the feeling of the exposed glans.

Some do it for hygiene reasons - it certainly prevents any build-up of smegma. Oten these were taught to do it by their parents. And of course some just have short foreskins which only ever cover part of the glans in any case.

One guy I know does it because he has a very large glans, and he just finds it more comfortable to have his foreskin retracted. Another used to pull it back before getting in the shower, then started leaving it back while drying, then when getting dressed, and is now exposed 24/7. Several, including me, used to pull it back when taking a leak, and then left it back when putting their dicks away.

Training the Foreskin

There are several ways to ‘train’ your foreskin:

One is to use the taping method –

This has the disadvantage that you have to go around with strips of Elastoplast or Micropore all over your dick, which is OK if it is not going to be on show. And of course, it is painful to remove!

Another way is to put two small pieces of tape on your penis – one underneath, near the frenulum, and one on the top. These methods have the disadvantage of being rather visible, and so are probably not a good idea if you are likely to have your penis on view (e.g. communal showers at the gym, or on a naturist beach!).

Another way is to buy a glans ring, which is a thin rubber ring. It should be fitted just behind the glans, This will help the foreskin stay back, and has the advantage of being almost invisible in normal wear, as the foreskin will hide it. (You can also use 1" diameter plumbers’ O-rings, but these are not so flexible.)

Some guys have found that rings made of foam rubber do the same job, as do ‘hair scrunchies’ – small elasticated rings used to make pony-tails. These are better, as they will expand if you get an erection! They can be bought in packs of 20 or so in any supermarket.

In time, you should be able to dispense with any of these, as the foreskin will be ‘trained’ to stay back. But some will take more training than others.

Getting started

To get started, you need first of all to get your glans used to being uncovered. The best way to do this is to choose a day when you can be ‘home alone’ for several hours – all day if you can. When you are in the shower or bath, pull your foreskin back, and do not push it forward again. Soap on the glans can be too drying – use shower gel or shampoo. Then, remain naked, or put on a T-shirt at most – nothing below the waist! This will allow you to roll the foreskin back at once if it slips forward, but also allows the air to start drying your glans. Do this as often as possible.

You will probably get an erection – good! This will pump the glans up to its full size, and keeping the skin back as it subsides, the glans will not shrink so much as if it is covered by the foreskin. Depending on the way your penis works, the glans will eventually expand, even if only slightly, though it may take several months to do so. (This is what happens with guys who are circumcised.) You want the corona (the ridge at the base of the glans) to flare out, as this will help keep the retracted foreskin in place.

At some point, you will certainly want to jack off. Try and resist as long as possible! Ideally, you should do so by rubbing the bare head, with or without lube, but this may take some time to work up to. You may be able to do it by just stimulating the retracted foreskin. Whatever, have it pulled right back as you come, and keep it back as you subside – again, this allows the glans to reach its full size uncovered.

Always make sure the foreskin is retracted when you are in the shower/bath, and when you go to bed. It will slip forward during the night, but with time it will learn to stay retracted.

Some guys say their foreskins shrink, but this only really seems to happen if you start retracting before puberty – your penis can then grow, while the foreskin remains the size it was.

Asian Guys

Asian guys always seem to have an exposed glans. This seems to be because they have shorter foreskins than western men, and they retract of their own accord, although in Japan it seems that lads are taughjt to skin back aroundthe age of 12 - it is supposed to be a social gaffe if one appears in the bath-house with the glans covered.

This pic shows a Chinese guy - was his glans large to start with, thus forcing the foreskin back, or did it expand because the skin was kept back?

About Foreskins

Like penises, foreskins come in several kinds! Some cover the whole glans (knob) even when erect; some retract all or part way when erect; some cover only part of the glans even when soft. Some are so short that they cannot be pulled forward at any time. So what works for one will not always work for another! Some guys will get the desired result in a matter of weeks, others may take months.

The earlier this is done the more likely it is to be successful. If done before puberty, the glans will grow and swell, but the foreskin will not, and will remain permanently retracted at all times, and it will usually be impossible to push it forward at all.

Why wear your Foreskin rolled back?

Some men cannot understand the desire to do this. There are a number of reasons:

Desire to look circumcised. This may be the most common, and would be done where either the majority of other men or boys are circumcised, and you don’t want to stand out - as was supposed to be the case in English public schools; or because, although the majority of others are not circumcised, you want do want to stand out.

‘I just prefer the look’. The appearance of the bared glans is certainly preferable, for many, to the skin-covered version: it is often seen as ‘more manly’ or ‘more mature’. Just as many men get circumcised simply for the appearance, so many skin back for the same reason. Closely related is ‘I like the feel’. This often stems from having it back in the shower, and leaving it back when getting dressed, and you get accustomed to the feeling of the bare glans.

Hygiene. Certainly there are benefits here. The exposed glans does not become sweaty and smelly, and the production of smegma decreases to nil in most cases. As it is already retracted, there is no need to pull the foreskin back when urinating, and it is much easier to simply shake off the last drops, and they don’t get trapped in the foreskin, where they fester and smell.

‘My mate persuaded me’. Some guys start retracting because they have a mate who does it, or who has recently been circumcised, and they want to know how it feels! Or it may be a sexual partner who wants you to do it. In a few cases, parents have taught their sons to retract their foreskins.
